A Land of Glass and Fire has officially launched!

A Land of Glass and Fire has officially launched! Woo-hoo! This is the fourth book in the Haymaker adventure series, but can be read as a stand alone, so if you haven't read the other three books you'd still enjoy this. (Although you will get more out of it having first read the others...)

I've been anxious to write another Jonathan Haymaker book for a while and this one was a lot of fun. I was able to play with his character in ways that I haven't done before and put him in some entirely new situations. (And no spoilers, but there are some really, really fun things that come out in this particular book!)

Still, despite my excitement, I have been disheartened to hear that there were some problems with some of the very first copies to go out. As far as I know, the problem isn't widespread, but I have heard of five instances where the book files didn't download properly and stopped the book at the end of chapter 12 (But randomly including the back matter like my bio at the end.). If you are one of these five people, rest assured that Dragon Scale Publishing is working with Amazon to handle it. The super short update is that DSP has fixed any upload issues on their end, and is now just waiting for Amazon to fix the affected readers' files, which should happen in the next little while. However, most people were not affected at all, and there have been no new issues reported since yesterday evening, meaning that anyone who purchases the book from here on out is guaranteed to get the book in its entirety. If you want to make sure you have the complete version, just make sure you have 15 chapters (technically 16 if you count the prologue as an additional chapter). You know what they say, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger... so perhaps the book will be stronger somehow for having a glitch ;)

In any case, I am very excited to have this out for you and am anxious to see what you all think about A Land of Glass and Fire.

Wren and the Ravens is out now!

I have been working with author Eric Buffington on this project for a while now and I am super excited about it. If you haven't seen Eric's work before, then definitely check out The Troven -- it's an amazing fantasy adventure that spent 50 consecutive weeks in the top 100 of its category upon release. (I'll link to it at the bottom.)

If you have read Eric's work, then you already know how fun it can be. Now, imagine there is a group of five teens running away from their home town only to wind up smack dab in the middle of a ruthless assassin's plot and fouling things up -- because that is what kicks this adventure off. A good amount of action sprinkled with some fun humor is bound to give you a good time.

Check out Wren and the Ravens! You won't be disappointed.

And if you are new to Buffington, then take a look at The Troven as well.

Alfarin 2

I suppose there are always ups and downs in a persons career and life. Well, Alfarin 2 is a bit of a downer so far.

The wrong files were uploaded and have caused a bit of a kerfluffle. My understanding is the correct files will be uploaded sometime by the end of the month, so anyone who got a copy should be able to re-sync their devices at that time and get the right book... but still that leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth.

If you can bear with me a little bit, I will get it fixed up -- there were some issues with the final edits that essentially didn't get fixed in time, so it was deemed best to put up a placeholder file which is a re-edited version of #1, but that is not the final file obviously. So, if you can hang in there, we'll get the right file out soon. Amazon should be sending out an announcement once the new corrected files are ready, but that might be a few days after the changes are made so I will make another blog announcement once I know the right files are uploaded for #2.

To the best of my knowledge, most copies of Alfarin 2 were stopped, but there are 16 people who received the placeholder files. If you are one of those 16 people and want to reach out to me directly, please contact me at sam_ferguson(at)Talesfromterramyr(dot)com.

So sorry for the inconvenience. There are just a lot more moving parts on a collaborative project and this one has fallen victim to the process.

If you would rather return the book and wait for the files to be uploaded correctly, that's totally fine as well.

AIKUR'S WAR!!!!

I know I always say that my books are fun, but this one really is! :) I have been waiting for it to come out for a long time, and now that it is I am super excited for it. In this tale you won't just get the action that you love in my books, but you will get to know a race of people that hasn't been explored very much in my previous works, and you will get to go into places that haven't been explored very much either.

If you like the lore that is building up on Terramyr, then you can't miss Aikur's War -- it isn't just an easter egg hauled around in book form by a warlock in The Dragon's Champion series, it's a full novel in its own right, with characters you will both love and hate. So grab your copy today!

The Crystal Spire is out NOW!

Gooooooood morning world! I am super excited to announce that The Crystal Spire has officially launched and is available for your reading pleasure!

It's already making quite a splash in the charts, which I am happy to see, but there are two other reasons why I am very excited about this particular book. The first reason is that it's an Erik Lokton story. I love working with this set of characters, and it's always fun to bring him to new and challenging places. Given all of his accomplishments and powers, it's a good brain exercise to see how I can handicap and challenge him -- which means it ends up going in places I may not have originally put into the outline that are very fun for me to discover during the writing process. :)

The other reason is that this book starts to bring some major overarching threads together, and I don't just mean from the Middle Kingdom. I always say how each book builds on another within my universe, but this one does a lot more than hide a few Easter Eggs. It is the first book to give a really major reveal about the universe as a whole. If you want to get the most out of The Crystal Spire, then you will want to be sure to have read The Dragons of Kendualdern series, Son of the Dragon, and the Haymaker Adventures as well.

If you haven't read those and you would rather dive into Crystal Spire right away, that's all right too. No matter what order you read them in, you'll get a kick out of where things are going from here on out. :)

Grab your copy today, and leave a kind review when you finish. :)

Son of the Dragon redo and new launch!

I have been re-examining some of my earlier works and thought that I should take a good hard look at The Netherworld Gate trilogy.

It is the first book that I ever wrote, and frankly it is technically the first one I ever published... It hit the shelves in 2006 -- only trouble was I had unwittingly published it with a vanity press. Still, I love the story, and not just because it's "my first" but also because I really like the main character. It's an anti-hero story plain and simple. Talon isn't like most of my other MCs, but that might also be why I like him so much. He does what he wants. He's capable of very dastardly deeds, and yet, he's still a human with deep-rooted emotional motives. He's a ton of fun -- well... he's also brutal, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

As I went through it again this spring while working on The Ghosts of Kobhir kick off, I decided that the story flowed much better as one massive book instead of three separate novels. If this one were to be printed in 5x8 like my other novels, the paperback would be over 1,100 pages long. That's like Goodkind length right there. For now it is only going to be available in e-book format, but I will at some point in the next few weeks create a collector 6x9 version (even the larger pages will still have it clocking in between 600-700).

If you have read the series and loved it, then please click on this link and leave a good review. If you haven't read it, and are looking for something different from me, then give this one a shot this summer. You may find that you will come to like Talon as well. ;)

Fun stuff for The Netherworld Gate fans

Here's another surprise for May -- Kelden and Yeoj are back in their own adventures.

If you read Winter's Ghost or the short series The Lost Heir then you are already familiar with this first volume as it blends the two together to begin the saga.

If you haven't read either Winter's Ghost or the short series while it was on my blog, then be ready to have some fun! The Ghosts of Kobhir is going to follow our two heroes as they continue to plot, scheme, and claw their way through whatever (or whoever) stands in the way of reclaiming their city. I guarantee you won't want to miss this action-packed novella, or the sequels to come.

Additionally, I am currently working on a novella prequel just for Talon -- so if you wanted to know a bit more about the deadly assassin before the events chronicled in Son of the Dragon, you will have your wish fulfilled very soon!

Cover reveal for the next Jonathan Haymaker book!

If you have been wondering what Jonathan Haymaker has been up to since the end of book 3 -- wonder no more! Book 4 is coming soon and ready to take you on an all new adventure.

Click here to pre-order your copy now!

It has been years since Jonathan last saw the strange guardian after returning home from Tanglewood Forest. His older brother is now expecting a child, and things at the farm have settled down.

Or so Jonathan thought...

When a letter arrives informing Jonathan that his dear friend Captain Ziegler has been murdered, he sets out to find answers.

The trouble is, a court prosecutor is coming with him, and she seems far more intent on proving Ziegler’s own guilt and destroying his legacy as a hero of the Troll Wars than worrying about who murdered him.

The deeper Jonathan digs, the more he realizes that Captain Ziegler may have led a double life before his time commanding the Ghosts of the Quags. Worse than that, evidence leads Jonathan to suspect his friend had returned to that life, and Ziegler's secret could prove disastrous if uncovered by the wrong people.

Jonathan must use his wits to stay three steps ahead of the prosecutor, and Ziegler’s murderers, in an adventure that becomes much more than a quest to defend his friend’s honor.

Pre-order A Land of Glass and Fire now, and prepare for Jonathan's most exciting tale yet!

And-- if you haven't yet started the Haymaker Adventures, then snag book one today for only $0.99!

Dinosaur hunting in May?

Logo
Sometimes you just have to take a fun trip!
If you're looking for this month's special announcements, you'll find those at the bottom, but first I wanted to share a little bit of what my family and I did recently. It was my wife's birthday and she has mentioned a few times over the last year that she would love to take the family out to Dinosaur National Park-- so as a surprise I booked a hotel and made it a weekend getaway!
Please enable images to view this content
It's hard to not get excited about dinosaurs in general -- but when you have five sons, it becomes a pretty fun trip. The weather was great and even from the first moment everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We stayed at the Dinosaur Inn and Suites, and I have to say it was fantastic. I didn't take pictures of their breakfasts -- but they do cook pancakes and eggs for you each morning as part of the deal. And, because it was my wife's birthday, they helped me put a few fun things in the room too, like dinosaur towels and a bouquet of flowers. Here are a few pictures of what we were up to.
Check out the Dinosaur Inn & Suites
Grid Item
Awww, dinosaur towels are snuggling on our bed... how cute.
Inside the quarry is a massive wall of dinosaur fossils which is a lot of fun for dinosaur enthusiasts.
Grid Item
Don't mind the milk -- that's for night time sippy cups for the little ones...And about 15 minutes away from the quarry is a fun little river where we spent part of the afternoon playing around.
It might be nerdy, but this was my favorite skeleton in the museum.Grid Item
They didn't just have dinosaurs to look at either...
And for those of you who like educational outings -- each of our kids got an activity packet about dinosaurs. Once they filled it out, a ranger checked their work and gave them fun little badges.
This was my favorite replica -- a massive 7 foot long sail fin.

Grid Item

This shrimp cocktail was bigger than his head!
Some families build sand castle -- but my family builds rock forts!
And don't worry -- I still kept up with my goal of publishing something new each month. For April, I unveiled a prequel to The Dragon's Champion series.
It's called The Keeper of Secrets: Dragon Born, and is a full novella about Lepkin's legendary battle at Gelleirt Monastery.

Wren and the Ravens

The last little while I have been working on a super cool project with fellow author Eric Buffington.

If you aren't familiar with his work, then check out The Troven, which spent 50 weeks in the top 100 of its category on Amazon.

He brings a fun blend of humor to an all new adventure, set in an all new world. It has certainly made for an exciting project and I am positive you will all enjoy this one.

Without further ado.... (drum roll please) I give you:

It is said in Ryr that even when you seek peace, trouble often finds you.

For teenage Liden and his four friends, that is exactly what happens. No sooner do they run away from the mining town of Ryr to find freedom and adventure than they are thrust into events that mix them up with a notorious assassin known only as Wren.

Though the teenagers and assassin share neither goals nor values, they find themselves forced into cooperation in order to survive as they are caught up in the war raging along the Satine River that separates the northern and southern kingdoms.

How will Liden and his friends escape the war zone without making an enemy of Wren? Buy Wren and the Ravens today to find out!

Aikur's War

I am super excited for this one. Some of you die-hards out there might have read an abridged short story version of Aikur's War, but the plan had always been to put this one out as a full length novel.

I have been working on this story bit by bit over the last couple of years and bringing it to life and it's finally ready.

Fun fact-- Aikur's War is also mentioned in The Dragon's Champion series, and Aikur himself does a few things that affect the world long enough for Jonathan Haymaker when tromping around Tanglewood Forest as well. So, this isn't just a stand alone novel -- it's like a Russian nesting doll, opening up new layers of Terramyr that haven't been fully discovered yet by other stories. :)

What would drive a man to defy the gods?

Called out of retirement to defend his town, goblins soon prove to be the least of Aikur's worries when the fates conspire to pit the warrior against Hatmul, the ruler of hell, to retrieve the souls of his murdered wife and children.
Defeat would mean not only the loss of the war, but also condemn Aikur's soul to hell.
A wise man would turn and run... but Aikur has never run from a fight in his life.
If you love a skull-smashing good time spiced with Norse and Greek mythological influences, then buy Aikur's War now

Fur Trader 2 is released early!

2018 is off to a good start! Not only did Dominion: Edge of the Storm get an early release, but Fur Trader 2 is out today! That's right, no more waiting until April -- it's available right now on Kindle. So if you pre-ordered it, then enjoy, and if you are waiting for the paperback, that should be ready between Wednesday and Friday (there's always a bit of a lag on my paperbacks --- but it's coming early too, so it's still great news.)

Garrin has more than a few tricks left up his sleeve and if you have been waiting to see how the veteran mountain man handles the rest of the dubious wizards and mercenaries sent to track him down, you won't be disappointed.

Garrin thought he had hired on to simply guide a pair of travelers through Dryden Pass. He soon learned the truth of their identities after overcoming ancient automotons, mage-assassins, and epic wizard battles, but the real danger lies ahead of him.

The harshest storms are rolling in, some augmented and exacerbated by magic. And that's not all. Soldiers and thugs pursue them at every turn, while frost trolls and deadly creatures from the mountain emerge, eager to make a meal of them.

Garrin will have to use every trick at his disposal to ensure they make it through the pass alive.

And if you haven't checked out Fur Trader 1 yet, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It's a fun blend of a mountain-man adventure wrapped up in a fantasy burrito with plenty of folklore spice and a little twist of lemon ;)

Garrin completed his mandatory military service several years ago, and he hated every minute of it. Now, he spends his days as a trapper. He knows the northern mountains of Dryden Range better than any other fur trader in the business. More than that, he is one of only two such people to have ever worked in Geberron Pass, the most deadly parts of Dryden Range.

When he is approached by a middle-aged man and his teenage nephew, Garrin knows there is more to the pair than they are telling him. They seek passage to Brywood, a city to the north of Dryden Range and across the Seron River, which marks the northernmost border of Garrin’s homeland. Most folk would travel west along the southern coastline and then turn northward, skirting around the mountains. These two, however, are offering a small fortune to go directly through the mountains with Garrin as their guide. The uncle pitches the idea as if he was nothing more than an adventure-hungry lesser-noble with too much gold and time on his hands for his own good.

Garrin knows that even those seeking adventure would never think to attempt Geberron Pass in the winter, unless they were hiding something. Still, the stranger makes Garrin an offer too good to pass up.

However, as the trio pushes forward through Dryden Range, Garrin soon learns that the uncle’s secret is far more serious than he ever could have imagined, and he finds himself in peril the likes of which he has never experienced before. Garrin quickly realizes he will need to dig deep and employ his full range of skills to ensure the safety of the group, and particularly protect the life of the youth who has clearly been plunged in over his teenage head.

The Crystal Spire -- the next chapter in Erik Lokton's adventures...

Today The Crystal Spire went up for pre-order. It has been almost a year since the last Erik Lokton book came out, so I hope it meets reader expectations. There are going to be a few fun twists in this one that I think will be exciting for long time fans that have read more than just this one series too.

It's been a crazy year with moving up release schedules and slotting in all of these releases, but it has been very rewarding to hear some good feedback on the stories that people have been waiting for. With Crystal Spire, I wanted to do something a bit special for the fans, and have the pre-order set to a low $0.99. After the book's launch date, it will go back up to full price at $2.99, so if you're thinking about grabbing it, I'd suggest snagging it now.

Dominion: Edge of the Storm is going to be released a month early!

I am so excited to announce that book three in the Dragons of Kendualdern saga, Dominion: Edge of the Storm, is going to be released THIS FRIDAY! Originally it was planned to go out on March 31st, but I really didn't want to wait any longer than I had to, so we buckled down and pulled a few long days and switched up the release.

Karlax's story is one that has been so much fun to work with and introduce little twists here and there. I think as you get into the series, you'll see some of the fun things weaving in and out of each story that bind them all together and it should make for a satisfying adventure.

Click here to pre-order book 3!
If you haven't started the series yet, then definitely check it out!
Click here to check out book 1
Click Here to check out book 2

The other really cool result of pushing the release date up is I am pretty sure it is going to have a cascade effect, so Fur Trader 2 should be able to get moved up quite a bit as well! Stay tuned, and I will be sure to put out any updates just as soon as I can.

Until then... Happy reading!

Epic Farm Boy gets a sequel... sort of...

I had a ton of fun writing Epic Farm Boy -- too much fun probably-- and now you have seen a glimpse of my scatter-brained idea of humor. But, whether you loved it or hated it, Epic Farm Boy is getting a sequel... sort of.

So, it takes place in the same world, but actually doesn't involve Simplin or Lucas. Why?

Because it's a book all about Arethel! The cover is so fun too, with the whole super cheesy smile and heroic pose with the sunlight lighting up her hair as she does one of those "fashion model" head turns. Love it!

The gist of the story is this, Jack -- the same author in Epic Farm Boy -- finds a mysterious manuscript on his computer. He opens it up and finds that Arethel had written down an autobiographical account of her latest adventures as one of the "hottest" Rangers in Lickedintime. It takes place before she met anyone from Simplin's crew, and it a fun, if not slightly over-the-top, story about this lovably dim-witted elf as she chases the man she loves through all sorts of danger. Unfortunately, she is just a bit too dense to realize that her true love just likes her as... a friend... from afar... like, from reeeeeally far away...

Poor Arethel...

Pre-order here.
If you haven't checked out Epic Farm Boy yet, then do yourself a favor and snag it for a weekend read-- it'll put at least one smile on your face guaranteed ;)

A new book release and more announcements!

Today, Dominion: Seeds of Alliance hit the shelves -- or e-readers as the case may be, and it's been fun to see everyone's reactions to it. I was super happy with this one, and loved writing it. It was a lot of fun to explore another dragon as the main character. I haven't really done that since the first Dragons of Kendualdern with Gorliad (don't worry -- those of you looking for Gorliad to make a return will not be disappointed! Just enjoy where you are for now and you'll be pleasantly surprised where Gorliad makes his appearance.)

Next week, Epic Farm Boy comes out. It was very fun as well, but entirely different. I poked fun at a lot of things --authors included of course-- and I am a bit nervous to see how it is received, but also really excited because I think if you go into it fully expecting nothing but a silly way to pass the time and get a few laughs, you will be well pleased. I mean, the main wizard is named Simplin the Wise, that ought to tell you everything you need to know right?

But -- even though these are fun announcements, I have two more for today. The first is Fur Trader 2 finally has a release date (can you hear the trumpets in the background?)

Garrin is going to finish what he started, and it's going to be a fun ride!

And then there is this -- the super awesome cover for the next Dragons of Kendualdern book, which will be out in March (or sooner if I have my way!) You are not going to want to miss this next volume!
