He is better than most in the village at archery, though. He is an excellent hunter, and can perform more trick shots than anyone else with amazing accuracy. Well, he is almost better than anyone else. Jason has him beat there too. Jonathan doesn't mind though, he and his older brother share a deep bond that connects them more fully than their differences could separate them. They work together in their family fields, go swimming at the fishing hole, and sometimes they play tricks on other farmers in the village. Whatever they do, for good or ill, they do together.

On Jonathan's sixteenth birthday though, officers come to the village asking for volunteers. Trolls have invaded during the heaviest monsoon season ever known, and the wet conditions have given the trolls enhanced abilities. Jason is the first to step forward, and is eagerly accepted for his height and strength. Though he also volunteers, Jonathan is told he is too young, and not strong enough for the rigors of war with the trolls in the Murkle Quags.

When letters stop arriving from Jason after two years of war, and Jonathan still finds himself denied acceptance to the army due to his small stature, he does what any good brother would do. Jonathan Haymaker takes his bow and leaves his home. They said it couldn't be done. The journey was too far, the dangers too great, and the war too fierce for a boy like him. Perhaps they were right, but he knew Jason was alive somewhere, and he was not about to let his brother be alone.

Talon, a cold, calculating assassin has been double-crossed by his partners. Having barely escaped their trap for him, he returns their treachery with his blade and continues to seek the Tomni’Tai Scroll –the one artifact that will grant him incredible power and enable him to finally put his oldest enemies to rest. A well-renowned elf sage sits near the top of Talon’s list, but that isn’t all. Talon seeks even to slay Basei, the demigod of battle. As Talon’s power grows, only one man stands a chance of stopping Talon from unleashing his ultimate, unbridled wrath upon the realm. Sold my home and working out of my car...

Okay so not really entirely out of my car. We have some camping trips planned and then we have some relatives that will put up with us for a bit while we wait to close on our next home, but I thought the title would be funny.

In any case, I am working on edits for The Crystal Spire, the sequel to Dark Sahale, and I am having a ton of fun. I know I said that last time, but in The Crystal Spire I get to play around with Allun'Rha, and he is an interesting character. A bit mischievous, somewhat tainted by Nagar's blight... and perhaps a bit hardened by the harsh reality of what he has seen and done over the last several centuries of his life. Putting that up against Erik is a fun, intriguing task, as they have somewhat similar experiences, but are approaching life from slightly different angles.

In other news, I am happy to announce that I will be at SLC Comic Con Sept. 21-23. I had a tremendous amount of fun last year, and am looking forward to meeting with a bunch of you again this year! In the meantime, Dark Sahale has received some good feedback so far. It's hit the top 10 in the U.S. and top 3 in the U.K. so hopefully that means people are enjoying it. (I'm always nervous until a few reviews roll in... so help me assuage my anxiousness by sending in your thoughts and posting nice reviews on amazon... or just let me suffer, never knowing whether you enjoyed it or not...)

Erik Lokton is back in an all new adventure!

I have been working on this project for a long time, but today is finally the day that Dark Sahale is available for you to read! I am super excited to bring Erik Lokton back for a new adventure that promises a few surprising twists and turns as we kick off a new series.

It has been so much fun to work with Erik again after completing other projects. It has been challenging and rewarding to find new ways in which to stretch Erik as a character, especially given all that he has already accomplished within The Dragon's Champion series. I am definitely looking forward to seeing how you all like it. This book starts out about seven years after Return of the Dragon, at a time when someone has murdered more than a dozen sahale...

It's Almost here... Erik Lokton returns!

So I have dropped a few hints, and even thrown out a cover a few weeks ago. I am super excited about each of the projects I am working on right now, but I think I am most stoked to be bringing Erik back!

I don't have a release date yet, but I do have the initial cover sketch for the next book. Hope you like it.

2017 has been a bit weird so far...

This year has started off a bit weird!

I ran into a bit of a wall in terms of my powerlifting, so I had to cancel my trip to Atlanta for the National Championship next month. I'm super bummed about that, but it is what it is. Essentially just ran into a cash and timing issue. That's just how life goes sometimes. Still, I do have a couple of gold medals for the state championship and the regional championship, so I certainly can't complain about how far I have come in a little over one year of stepping back into training.

The next thing on the plate is that we're moving. So, the joys of house hunting have been eating up a lot of time. We had thought we would be in our current house for at least a couple decades (I moved around a lot growing up, so I wanted to be a little more stable in my adult life...) but it looks like we'll be moving out this summer.

And then there are the writing projects. Some have been great. I really enjoyed Eye of Tanglewood Forest and I think it brings a lot to the world of Terramyr- and some have not been so great, like needing to redo Fur Trader 2. Then there have been some fun things thrown into the mix that I hadn't been planning on, like a couple new Erik Lokton projects, and a funky new urban fantasy I have been working on. I never thought I would do an urban fantasy book... but it has been a lot more fun than I had anticipated. A little harder too as it requires some research on real world places and legends etc., but fun. There's something about taking the known world and creating a fictional system within it that has been pleasant to experiment with.

And, as if it wasn't challenging enough to work in a new genre, it's going to be in first person, which makes it an entirely different animal from all of the other novels I have worked with. Hopefully the rest of you will like it. I haven't gotten all of my editor's feedback for it yet... so I am not sure what the timeline is for it, but I am hoping it will be nearing the final stages fairly quickly.

Also, I have been asked by several of you about the next Dimwater book. YES, there is more to come... but I don't have a timeline yet. The next Dimwater project is in the early drafting stages and I am not sure when it will come. I can promise I won't be super slow, but it takes a bit of time to develop so it certainly won't be this summer.

And, just because there isn't enough going on right now... there is a game developing company (which shall remain nameless at this point) working on two games set in Terramyr. I don't know all of the details about the timeline, but I was consulted on it and had a lot to do with it's development so far. Both are RPGs that are set in the same location as Jonathan Haymaker... though they are at different periods of time, so they aren't game versions of the books, but rather an extension of the world that uses some of the history and themes from the Haymaker Adventures series. Still cool though. If the larger RPG gets officially greenlighted, then I will be doing the story writing and planning so it will officially fit within the World of Terramyr canon.
